The thought of losing one of your loved ones is incomprehensible. In May of 2015, the Gremmo family found themselves facing this very heartbreaking situation, with the passing of their eldest child, Nathan.

Despite the loss and grief they were going through, Nathan’s family chose to turn their tragedy into a blessing. By donating his organs, Nathan saved the lives of 6 people – including five adults and one baby.

Jersey Day was inspired by the gift of life that Nathan gave to 6 people, as well as to honour his memory.

Jersey Day is an opportunity for everyone to wear their favourite sporting jersey and inspire others to talk about the importance of becoming an organ and tissue donor.

The Conn3cted team have supported and participated in Jersey Day activities for the past few years.

Some important facts about organ donation that may surprise you:

Australia is a world leader for successful transplants. In 2020, 1270 lives were saved through organ donation.

Around 1,800 Australians are currently waitlisted for a transplant. A further 1,000 are on dialysis, many of whom would benefit from a kidney transplant.

In 2020, 1,270 Australian lives were saved through an organ transplant due to the generosity of 463 deceased organ donors and their families.

While the majority of Australians support organ and tissue donation, one in three (34%) are registered to be a donor on the AODR.

The majority of Australians (69%) are willing to donate their organs and/or tissue when they die.

In 2020, there was a 12 per cent decrease in the number of people receiving a transplant and a 16 per cent decrease in the number of donors compared to 2019.
